91 mulato man within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all service to her or to any claiming under her and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided James Hunter Ch.d Ex.d d.d 2½ Recorded the 11th day of November 1818 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I Leonard Scott of the City of annapolis and State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in consideration of the sum of five shillings Current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery my negro Girl named Sarah being now about the age of Eighteen and able to get her living have liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from slavery liberate manumit and set free the said Negro Girl Sarah from and after the twelfth day of July Eighteen hundred and twenty six and the children of the said negro Girl Sarah (if any she should have) the males to be free at the age of twenty five years and the females to be free at the age of sixteen years I do declare the said negro Girl Sarah and her issue to be free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs Executors or administrators forever after the expiration of the time above mentioned In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this thirteenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and Eighteen Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of: James Hunter Leod scott (seal) Richd Cowman (on) |
