89 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I Benjamin Thomas of anne arundel County in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of five dollars Current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free from and after the fourth day of april Eighteen hundred and forty one my negro Girl named mehala or by whatsoever name she may be known or called being of the age of Eleven years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and her the said negro Girl named mehala I do declare to be free manumitted and discharged from and after the time above mentioned from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs Executors or administrators for ever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this second day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and Eighteen Signed Sealed & delivered in the presence of us Benjamin Thomas (seal) James Hunter Lewis D Jones On the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Anne Arundel County sc.t Be it remembered that on this second day of October one thousand Eight hundred and Eighteen personally appears Benjamin Thomas party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the said (County) |
