83 in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also for the further consideration of five dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery manumitted liberated emancipated and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery manumitted liberated emancipated and set free the following negroes to wit Sarah aged about twenty four years and Rachel aged about four years the said negro woman Sarah being able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance; and the said negroes I do hereby declare and pronounce to be henceforth free manumitted emancipated liberated and discharged from slavery and from all manner of service to me the said William Simmons my heirs Executors and administrators for ever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this seventh day of may Eighteen hundred and Eighteen Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of William Simmons (seal) P H OReilly Thomas Crandell on the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Received this seventh day of may Eighteen hundred and Eighteen the sum of five dollars being the Consideration money of the foregoing deed and in full for the same Witness William Simmons Thomas Crandell Anne Arundel County sc.t Be it remembered that on this seventh day of may Eighteen hundred and eighteen personally appears William Simmons of Chapman party to the foregoing instrument (of) |
