In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand affixed my seal this twenty ninth day of July in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and Eighteen Signed Sealed & delivered in the presence of Ann Munroe (seal) James munroe Benjamin Childs on the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit: Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of forty dollars Current money it being the full consideration money within mentioned Ann munroe (seal) Anne Arundel County to wit: On the 15th of august 1818 appeared ann munroe before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for said County and acknowledged the within instrument of writing to be her act and deed for the purposes within mentioned according to the act of assembly in such case made & provided James Hunter Ch.d 2¾ Recorded the 17.th day of august 1818 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I Benjamin Howard of the City of annapolis in anne arundel County and State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of the sum of one dollar Current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my woman named Betsy Howard and her two male Children named Benjamin Howard and Charles Howard being (under) |
