628 the said Negro Girls to remain and be the Slaves of me the said Thornton F Robinson or my legal representatives In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fourteenth day of april Eighteen hundred and forty two Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of Thornton F Robinson (seal) Robert Griffith, Jos G Harrison On the back of the foregoing was thus written to wit State of maryland anne arundel county to wit: On this fourteenth day of april Eighteen hundred and forty two personally appeared the above named Thornton F Robinson before me a Justice of the peace of said State on and for the county aforesaid and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning of the same and the acts of assembly in such case made and provided Exd Before Jos: G Harrison 5 Recorded the 18 day of April 1842 Know all men by these presents that I Richard J Snowden of anne Arundel County State of maryland divers good causes and Considerations me thereunto moving as also in the further Consideration of one dollar to me in hand paid have released from slavery manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from slavery manumit and set free my Negro woman Sophia Taylor aged forty four years and able to earn a good and sufficient livelihood and her the said Sophia Taylor I do hereby declare manumitted and set free from me my Executors administrators and assigns forever In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fourth day of November in the year Eighteen hundred and forty two Signed Sealed and delivered in Richard J Snowden (seal) presence of Thos Snowden Israel F Plummer |
