563 To all whom it may concern be it known that I Mary Galloway Maxcy of the City of washington in the District of Columbia for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my mulatto girl named Jane being of the age of ten years and her the said mulatto girl named Jane I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this sixth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty four Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of us Mary G Maxcy (seal) B Thruston At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit: District of Columbia County of Washington Ls Be it remembered that on the sixth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty four before me the subscriber assistant Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia personally appeared Mary Galloway Maxcy known to me as the grantor in the within instrument and to whom I made ^known^ the contents thereof who did thereupon acknowledge that she signed sealed and delivered the same as her act and deed for the uses and purposes therein mentioned B.
