491 Joseph williams of the City of Annapolis in Ann Arundel county in the State of Maryland for divers causes me thereunto moving and also in further consideration of five Dollars Current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from slavery manumit and set free my negro woman named named Mary Ann Gray being able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and her the said Negro woman named Mary Ann Gray I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted set free from all manner of servitude to me my Executors or administrators forever and I do hereby bind myself my heirs executors and administrators in case the said Negro Mary Ann Gray should at any time hereafter be affected and unable to gain a sufficient livelihood to support her free from any expence from the Public or ann arundel County In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 29 day of april 1830 Signed sealed and delivered her In presence of Joseph X Williams (seal) Gideon white Charles B white mark At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Received on the day of the date above mentioned five Dollars it being the full consideration money above mentioned Joseph X Williams Ann Arundel County sst On the 29 day of april 1830 appeared the above named Joseph Williams before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the County and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed and the said negro woman Mary Ann Gray to be henceforth manumitted and set free from all manner of servitude to him or any |
