489 maintenance and him the said negro man named Edward Dowel I do declare to be henceforth free after serving William Gibbons of Ann Arundel County & state aforesaid until the above period and I do further declare the said Edward Dowel manumitted set free & discharged on the 1.st day of December 1836 from all man of servitude or service to me my Executors administrators and assigns forever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 19.th day of Aug.t in the year of our Lord 1831 one Signed sealed & delivered Thomas Price (seal) In presence of W.m Gibbons Cha.s Gibbons On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Recd on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of five dollars current money it being the full consideration money within mentioned Thomas Price (seal) State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered that on this 20.th day of August 1831 before the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the said state in and for the County aforesaid personally appeared Thomas Price party to the within Indenture and acknowledged the said Indenture to be his act and deed James Clark chd 3¼ Recorded the 14.th day of September 1831 To all whom it may concern be it known that I Ruth Davis of the City of Annapolis and state of Maryland for divers causes and considerations me thereunto moveing have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free the following named servants |
