479 from slavery liberate manumit and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro woman Polly being Twenty four and an half years at the present time and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and also the two children of said negro Polly one named Hessy aged six years to be free upon the first day of January one thousand Eight hundred and fifty one also negro charles his younger son aged three years to be free the first day of January one thousand Eight hundred and fifty Eight the aforesaid Polly mother of the above two children to be free as aforesaid on the first day of January one thousand Eight hundred and thirty two and them the said negroes I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged at the several periods therein mentioned viz Polly from the first day of January Eighteen hundred and thirty two and the two children at the different dates affixed to their mames to be discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators forever In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty one Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Lewis Sutton s.r Samuel Wood (seal) Wm H Wood On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit: State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Ss On this day of March 1831 personally appears Samuel Wood S.r party to the within instrument of writing or deed before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of Maryland for the County aforesaid and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negroes therein named to be thenceforth manumitted |
