353 To all whom it may concern be it known that I James Allison of the City of Annapolis in Anne Arundel County and state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro woman named Betty aged about twenty six years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance to be free from the date hereof. And her the said negro woman named Betty I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors administrators or assigns forever. In testimony whereof I hereto set my name and affix my seal this twenty eighth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty six Signed Sealed and delivered James Allison (seal) in the presence of James Shaw R I Cowman At the foot of the aforegoing Deed was thus written to wit Anne Arundel county to wit Be it remembered that on this 28th day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty six personally appears James Allison before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for the county aforesaid and acknowledges the aforegoing deed of manumission to be his act and deed and the negro woman therein mentioned to be free according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such case made and provided (paid) Acknowledged before R I. Cowman 2¼ Recorded the 28th of October 1826 |
