318 On the back of the aforegoing Deed was thus written to wit Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of fifty dollars current money it being the full consideration money within mentioned Witness Lewis Sutton Richard Brown (seal) Mordecai Simmons Anne Arundel County to wit On this 27th day of April 1825 personally appears Richard Brown party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland for the ^said^ County and acknowledges the same to be his act and Deed for the purposes within mentioned and the several negroes within named to be thenceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or any claiming under him from the different periods prepaid to each of the within mentioned negroes names (and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided paid acknowledged before Lewis Sutton Ex.d d.d 4 Recorded the 11th day of June 1825 To all whom it may concern that I Ephraim Hobbs of Anne Arundel County and State of Maryland believing that natural freedom is the right of all men given by Almighty God and divers other good causes me thereunto moving as also in further Consideration of thirty dollars to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro boy named Henry being of the age of fifteen years the 24th day of march next and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance (and) |
