317 of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of fifty dollars current money to me in hand paid do agree to release from slavery from the different periods hereafter named liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby agree to release from slavery liberate manumit and set free the following negroes to wit my negro man known by the name of Tom Adams being of the age of forty one years to be free the twenty fifth day of December eighteen hundred and twenty eight; also my negro boy known by the name of Bill Chew ^being^ of the age of eight years to be free the twenty fifth day of December eighteen hundred and forty seven Also my negro boy known by the name of Lemuel Govins being of the age of seven years to be free the twenty fifth day of December one thousand eight hundred and forty seven also my negro boy known by the name of Dennis Govins being of the age of four years to be free the twenty fifth day of December one thousand eight hundred and fifty all of which negroes are able to work and gain a sufficient maintenance and livelihood and them the above named negroes Tom Bill Lemuel & Dennis I do declare to be thenceforth free from the different dates above prepaid to each of the above named negroes names manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me or my executors or administrators forever In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty seventh day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty five signed sealed and delivered Richard Brown (seal) in the presence of Lewis Sutton Mordecai Simmons (On) |
