307 At the foot of the aforegoing Deed was thus written to wit Anne Arundel County & State of Maryland to wit Be it remembered that on the twenty first day of February 1825 personally appeared before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace for said county the above named Ann Rainer who acknowledged the foregoing Instrument of writing to be her act and Deed Ch.d acknowledged before Abner Linthicum 1¾ Recorded the 1st day of March 1825 Know all men by these presents that I William Matthews of anne arundel county for and in consideration of the sum of forty one dollars to me in hand paid by Harriet Matthews and for other good causes me thereunto moving have manumitted from slavery and do hereby manumit and set free the said Harriet Matthews to be free on the twenty fifth day of December next and if I the said William Matthews should die before the said Harriet time the said Harriet Matthews to be free immediately and I do likewise hereby manumit and discharge and set free the child of the said Harriet matthews named Thomas to be free at the age of twenty one and if I the said Matthews should die before the said Thomas should arrive at the age of twenty one years the said Thomas to be free the said Harriet being twenty six years of age and Thomas aged four years and I do hereby manumit discharge and set free the above mentioned persons to be free and discharged from me my heirs administrators and assigns and from all person or persons whomsoever according to the above terms In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 10th day of March 1825 (Interlined) |
