304 had been recorded within the time limited by Law I do hereby certify that the aforegoing Law is a true copy from the original passed both branches of the Legislature December Session 1824 Test John Brewer Clk Ha Dol M.d Accompanying the aforegoing Law was the following Deed of manumission to wit To all whom it may Concern be it Known that I Jacob Franklin of Ann Arundel County In the state of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of the sum of five dollars Current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man named Harry Simms formerly the property of Samuel Coale and Joseph Court he being able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named Harry Simms I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this thirty first day of August in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and eighteen signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Jacob Franklin (seal) Ann Franklin John Johns Anne Arundel County to wit On this thirty first day of August eighteen hundred and eighteen personally appears Jacob Franklin party to the within Instrument (of) |
