297 Know all men by these presents that I Nich.s Owens of Anne Arundel County and state of Maryland believeing that natural freedom is the right of all men given by almighty God have therefore released from slavery manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from slavery manumit and set free my negro woman by the name of sarah aged thirty two years of a healthy constitution sound in mind and body and capable by labour to procure to herself sufficient food & raiment with other requisite necessaries of life from and after the first day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty five In Witness whereof I do hereunto set my hand & affix my seal this 29 day of September 1824 signed sealed & delivered in the presence of Nicholas Owens (seal) Eli G. Warfield Nich.s D Warfield of Bela At the foot of the aforegoing Deed was thus written to wit State of Maryland A. A. County to wit On this 28th day of september eighteen hundred & twenty four before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for the County aforesaid personally appeared Nich.s Owens and acknowledged the above Deed of manumission to be his act and Deed according to the purport true intent and meaning thereof and the acts of assembly in such Cases made and provided paid acknowledged before Nich.s D Warfield of Bela 2¼ Recorded the 6th day of October 1824 To all whom it may Concern. Be it known that I George G Brewer of the City of annapolis in the state of Maryland for divers good Causes and Considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of one dollar (current) |
