23 Signed Sealed & delivered in the presence of us his Frederick Harwood John X Forty (seal) James Green mark on the back of the aforegoing deed was thus endorsed to wit: Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of five shillings current money it being the full consideration money within mentioned his Witness Frederick Harwood John X Forty mark Anne Arundel County ss. Be it remembered That on this twenty ninth day of January 1817 Personally appears John Forty party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the county aforesaid and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro woman within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided ch.d Acknowledged before me Frederick Harwood 3¼ Recorded the 29th day of January 1817 Know all men by these presents that I Charles Carroll of Carrollton of the City of Annapolis in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free & by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free from & after the several & respective dates & periods herein after respectively appointed & prescribed all & singular the negro slaves male and female herein (after) |
