22 Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and five Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of Jn.o Brice (seal) Lewis Duvall Sept.r 16.th 1805 Then appeared before me one of the Justices of the peace for ann arundel County John Brice who acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed and that the several negroes above mentioned to be the right and property of the above named Joseph Selby for the term therein specified chd Acknowledged before Lewis Duvall 6½ Recorded the 27th day of January 1817 State of Maryland Anne Arundel County ss To all whom it may concern Be it known that I John Forty now of the City of annapolis in the State aforesaid for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of the sum of five shillings current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro woman named Henny being of the age of forty years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and her the said negro woman named Henny I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators for ever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty ninth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and seventeen |
