18 and set free and by these presents do release from slavery liberate manumit and set free the said negro boy named Tom Davis from and after the twentieth day of January Eighteen hundred and forty. I do declare the said negro boy named Tom Davis to be free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs Executors or administrators for ever after the expiration of the time above mentioned In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this Eighteenth day of January Eighteen hundred and seventeen Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of us John Thompson (seal) Frederick Harwood James Green On the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: State of Maryland anne arundel County ss Be it remembered That on this Eighteenth day of January Eighteen hundred and seventeen personally appears John Thompson party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State and County aforesaid and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro boy within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Acknowledged before me Frederick Harwood paid Recorded the 20.th day of January 1817 |
