141 him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Ex.d Acknowledged before paid Augus.tn Gambrill 3 Recorded the 20th day of December 1819 Be it remembered That I Thomas W Harwood of anne arundel County in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have manumitted liberated and set free from and after the Eighteenth day of april in the year Eighteen hundred and thirty six my negro Girl named Amelia born on the 18th of april 1811 and all the issue of the said negro Amelia to be free at the age of twenty five years the said amelia now being within the age allowed by law and able to earn a livelihood and I do hereby for myself my heirs Executors and administrators the said amelia and her issue as above mentioned release and discharge of and from all service or servitude whatever from that time for ever. In Witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of us Nicholas Worthington of Tho.s Thomas W Howard (seal) John H Warfield At the foot of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: State of maryland anne arundel county to wit On this first day of January 1820 before the subscriber a Justice of the peace of said State for the County aforesaid came the above named Thomas W Howard and acknowledged the above manumission to be his act and deed according to its true (intent) |
