133. To all to whom it may concern Be it known that I Richard Battee of anne arundel County in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of five dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro Boy Sam now about the age of sixteen years from and after the first day of august Eighteen hundred and twenty nine and my negro man Lloyd now about the age of thirty years from and after the first day of august Eighteen hundred and twenty four they being able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and them the said negro Sam and negro Lloyd I do declare to be free manumitted and discharged from and after the periods before mentioned from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs Executors or administrators for ever In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twentieth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and nineteen Signed Sealed & delivered in the presence of us Benj.a Pindle Richd H Battee (seal) Benj Gaither On the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of five dollars Current money it being the full consideration money within mentioned Witness Richd H Battee Benj Gaither Anne arundel County sc.s Be it remembered That on this twentieth day of July Eighteen hundred and nineteen personally appears Richard Battee party to the within instrument of writing before (me) |
