1 To all whom it may Concern Be it known that I Joseph McCeney of anne arundel County in the State of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of one Dollar Current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man named Charles Calvert being of the age of thirty Eight years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said Negro man named Charles Calvert I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of Servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators forever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty third day of august in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and sixteen Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of us Jo: McCeney (seal) Wm S Green Frederick Harwood At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit: Anne Arundel County to wit: On this 23d day of august 1816 personally appears Joseph McCeney party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the said County and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the Negro (man) |
