50 on the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit State of Maryland anne arundel county to wit On this fifteenth day of august eighteen hundred and eight personally appears John Sewell party the within instrument of writing who acknowledges the same to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such case made and provided Acknowledged before Henry Woodward Recorded 22 aug.t 1808 Maryland anne arundel county Sc.t To all whom it may concern be it known that I William Caton of the city of annapolis merchant for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of one dollar current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my mulatto man named George Ambush being of the age of twenty eight years on the first day of January last past of a healthy constitution and sound in mind and body and able and capable by labour to procure for himself sufficient food and raiment and to gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance with other requisite necessaries of life and him the said mulatto man named George Ambush or by whatsoever name he may be known or called I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged |
