282 liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free at the expiration of eight years from the date hereof to the same day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two my mulatto male slave named John being of the age of about twenty seven years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said mulatto male slave named John I do declare to be at the expiration of the term as aforesaid free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fourth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fourteen Signed Sealed and delivered Benjamin Wells (seal) in the presence of Benj.a Wells Ju.r John Johns On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit: Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of three hundred dollars current money it being in full for the consideration money within mentioned Test Benj.a Wells Ju.r Benjamin Wells John Johns Anne Arundel County to wit: On this fourth day of April one thousand eight hundred and fourteen personally appears Benjamin Wells party to the |
