278 liberate and set free the said negro Nell Therefore I the said Susanna Lane by the power vested to me under the said will do liberate manumit and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery the said negro Nell and declare her to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude agreeably to the will of the said Ann Lane In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 25th day of June in the year of our Lord 1814 Signed Sealed and delivered Susanna Lane (seal) in the presence of R Welch of Ben James Green On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit Anne Arundel County to wit: On this 28th day of June eighteen hundred and fourteen personally appeared Susanna Lane party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland for the said County and acknowledged the same to be her act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro girl within named to be henceforth manumitted and freed according to the last will and testament of the within named Ann Lane Acknowledged before paid R Welch of Ben 2¾ Recorded the 28.th day of June 1814 |
