268 On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit: Anne Arundel County to wit: On this 18.th day of May 1814 personally appears Sarah Riggs party to the above instrument of writing before me a Justice of the peace for the County aforesaid and acknowledges the same to be her act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the several negroes therein named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to her or any claiming under her according to the conditions therein stipulated and to the act of Assembly in such cases made and provided Ex.d Acknowledged before paid W.m P. Mathews 3¼ Recorded the 2.d day of June 1814 To all whom it may concern Be it Known that I Sarah Riggs of Anne Arundel County State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also for the further consideration of the sum of five shillings current money to me in hand paid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge and myself therewith to be fully satisfied have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free my negro man called Thomas alias Saucy being of the age of twenty eight years and able to work and |
