235 released from slavery liberate manumit and set free my malato woman Ann being about sixteen years of age and able to work and gain a sufficient livelyhood and maintenance and her the said molato woman named Ann I do declare to be henceforth free manimitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators in eleven years from this date and thereafter to be free forever. In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this 15 day of January 1814 Signed Sealed and delivered Burgess Nelson (seal) in the presents of Louis Gassaway On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit: Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of one hundred dollars current money it being the full consideration money within mentioned Louis Gassaway Burgess Nelson (seal) Anna Arundal County to wit: On this 15.th day of January 1814 personally appear'd Burgess Nellson party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the the State of Maryland for the said County and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the malato woman within named Ann to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all service to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to act of assembly in such cases made and provided ch.d Acknowledged before Louis Gassaway 2¾ Recorded the 15.th day of January 1814 |
