222 that on this 8th day of September eighteen hundred and thirteen personally appeared John Claude Dennis Claude and Abram Claude parties to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a justice of the peace of the State of Maryland for the said County and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the man slave within mentioned to be manumitted henceforth and discharged from all services to them or any claiming under them and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Acknowledged before chd Louis Gassaway 3 Recorded the 9.th day of September 1813 Know all men by these presents that I Margaret Hopkins of Anne Arundel County for divers good causes and considerations me hereunto mooving do hereby manumit set free and release from all claims of servitude the several slaves hereinafter named. This manumission to take and have effect and the freedom of such slaves to commence at the several times as is to each of them hereinafter respectively mentioned that is to say: Ned mulatto aged thirty nine years to be free on the first day of January eighteen hundred and fourteen negro Area aged forty years to be free on the first day of January eighteen hundred |
