209 State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations us thereunto moving as also in further consideration of fifty dollars current money to us in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free our negro man named James being of the age of fifty years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance And him the said negro man named James we do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to us our executors or administrators forever In Testimony whereof we have hereunto our hands and affixed our seals this twentieth day of March eighteen hundred and thirteen Signed sealed and Lancelot Warfield (seal) delivered in the presence Tho.s H. Dorsey (seal) of And Warfield On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit: Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of fifty dollars current money it being the full consideration money within mentioned the sum of fifty dollars current money within mentioned And Warfield Lancelot Warfield Tho.s H. Dorsey Anne Arundel County to wit: Be it remembered that on this twentieth day of March eighteen hundred and thirteen personally appears Lancelot Warfield and Thomas H Dorsey parties to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber |
