20 To all whom it may concern be it known that I Joseph Court of anne arundel county in the state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also for the further consideration of one hundred pounds current money and interest thereon from the 25.th December 1801 to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man named Wappin being of the age of forty years and able to work and gain sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named Wappin. I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs executors or administrators forever In testimony hereof I have hereunto set my hand affixed my seal this 15.th day of may in the year of our lord eighteen hundred & seven Signed & sealed in the Joseph Court (seal) presence of on the back of the aforegoing Ben Carr was thus endorsed to wit Benj.a Allein Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of one hundred and twenty five pounds ten shillings current money it being the full consideration money within mentioned Joseph Court Witness Ben Carr Benj.a Allein Anne arundel county Sc.t Be it remembered that on the 15.th may |
