171 emancipation of the Mother their freedom at the time and in the manner following the males are to be free as they respectively arrives to the age of twenty one years and the females as they arrive to the age of eighteen years as aforesaid. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twelfth day of February 1812 Witness Jno Chew Thomas (seal) Joseph Sands Samuel Wood On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit: Ann Arundel County sc. On the 12.th day of February 1812 personally appeared before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for Ann Arundel County aforesaid the within named John Chew Thomas and acknowledged the within deed of manumission to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and agreeably to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided ch.d Joseph Sands Ex.d d.d 5¼ Recorded the 12.th day of February 1812 To all whom it may concern be it Known that I Susanna Wyvill of the City of Annapolis in Ann Arundell County and State of Maryland for divers good purposes causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of five shillings current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery my negro woman (or Girl) mary aged about fifteen years have liberated manumitted and sett free and by these presents do release from slavery liberate manumit and sett free the said negro mary from and after the twenty eighth day of August one thousand eight hundred and thirty one |
