63 personally appeared before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the county aforesaid the above named Richard Merriken party to the above instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to be his Act and Deed for intents and purposes therein Contained according to an Act of Assembly in such Cases made and provided Recorded 31 December 1799 Brice J. Worthington
of negroes in perpetual Slavery and bondage is repugnant to the Laws of God and inconsistant with the strict rules of Justice and Equity and also that freedom and Liberty is the inalienable right & privilege of every person born into the world Therefore for these and other good Causes and Considerations I the said Joshua Toogood being thereunto moved do for myself my heirs & assigns hereby manumit and forever Discharge and set free all my negroes herein after mentioned in manner and form following Viz.t one negro woman named Prissilla aged about thirty five years and Mary her Daughter aged about three years to be set free and have their full discharge and Liberty from the day or date hereof In Testimony whereof I the said Joshua Toogood have hereunto set my hand and affixed my |
