claiming under me  In Witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and seal this 28th day of august in the year of
our Lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety nine
Sealed & Delivered in the presents of      Elizabeth Merriken   (Seal)

On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed Vizt
Ann Arundel County  Then Came the within named
Elizabeth Merriken before me one of the Justices of the
peace for the County aforesaid and acknowledged the
within Instrument of writing to be her Act and Deed
according to the Act of Assembly in such Case made &
provided

 Know all Men by these presents that

I Benj.a Lane of Ann Arundel County
and state of Maryland for divers good Causes and
Considerations unto myself known have Liberated &
Discharged and by these presents for myself
my Executors and Administrators Liberate release
and forever Discharge my negro Man named
Peter Hawkings about twenty years of age to be
forever Discharged from all Claims of Service & right
of property in Law or Equity which against the said
negro man I ever had now have or which me my
heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns hereafter
can shall or may have for upon or by reason of any
cause or thing whatsoever from the beginning of the
world to the day of this date hereof  In Testimony
whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my
