    State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Sct.  I Nicholas
Harwood clerk of Anne Arundel County  Do hereby certify that it
appears by a deed of manumission from Nicholas Mathews to
Stephen Mathews bearing date the eighth day of August in the
year 1803 among the records of Anne Arundel County Court
that the said Stephen Mathews aged about thirty six at this
time was to be free from the date of the said manumission
is about five feet eight inches high his Complexion black
was raised in Ann Arundel County Walter Worthington
if said county made oath before Gideon White a Justice of
the peace for the County aforesaid that the said Stephen
Mathews is the indentical person mentioned in the said
deed of manumission
                Issued the 18th of September 1806
