26 of twenty two years he is of a dark complexion and was born at south river ferry in the county aforesaid has a scar on the right side of his nose also has a scar on the back of his right hand Issued the 16.th day of may 1807 State of maryland anne arundel county Sc.t I Nicholas Harwood clerk of anne arundel county court Hereby that it appears by a deed of manumission from philip Watts to negro samuel of the county af.d bearing date on the nineteenth day of oct.r in the year of our Lord 1792 and recorded amongst the records of anne arundel county court that the said negro samuel was to be free at December the twenty fifth in the year of our lord 1795 I further certify that a negro man named Samuel now present and who has made application to me for a certificate of his freedom has proved by testimony which is satisfactory to me that he is the identical person mentioned who was manumitted by the abovementioned deed of manumission the said negro named samuel is about five feet five inches high and appears to be about thirty six years of age he is of a dark complexion & was born & raised on the north side of severn in the county af.d and has a large lump on the left side of his face on the Jawbone also has a smaller one on the right Jaw & like one on the breast Issued the 16.th may 1807 |
