29 State of maryland anne arundel county sc.t I Nicholas Harwood clerk of ann arundel county court. Hereby certify that it appears by a deed of manumission from John Cowman to negro Henny of the county aforesaid bearing date on the 13.th day of nov.r 1796 and recorded amongst the records of ann arundel county court aforesaid that freedom was thereby granted unto a negro woman by the name of Henny stated then to be of the age of two years which said freedom was to take place when she arrived to the of eighteen years I further certify that a negro woman by the name of Henny now present and who has made application to me for a certificate of her freedom has proved by testimony which is satisfactory to me that she is the identical person who was manumitted by the above mentioned deed of manumission the said negro woman named Henny is about five feet one inch high and appears to be about the age of twenty three years she is of a dark complexion and has a mark on the breast and was raised on south river in the county aforesaid Issued the 23.d of may 1807 State of maryland anne arundel county Sc.t I Nicholas Harwood clerk of ann arundel county court hereby certify that a negro woman named Rachel Hammond who is now present and who has made application to me for a certificate of her freedom has proved by testimony which is satisfactory to me that she is free born the said negro woman Rachel Hammond is about five feet eleven inches high appears to be about eighteen years of age her complexion is dark has a small car on her left eye and was raised on the head of south river in the county aforesaid Issued the 23.d of may 1807 |
