as witness my hand and Seal this twentieth day of
July Anno Domini seventeen hundred & ninety eight
Sealed & Delivered in presence of
    John Randall                             Sam.l Ridout   (Seal)

On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit
Be it known that on the 20 day of July 1798 before me
John Randall one of the Justices of the peace for Ann
Arundel County Came Samuel Ridout & acknowledged
the within Instrument of writing to be his Act & Deed
for the use and purpose therein mentioned

 Know all Men by these presents that

I Samuel Ridout of the City of Annapolis
have and do hereby manumit set free & Discharge
from my service and the service of all persons
claiming under me a negro Man slave named
Mat otherwise Called Matthew Robertson and I do
hereby for myself and all claiming under me release
and Discharge said Mat from Slavery as witness
my hand and seal this twentieth day of July
Anno Domini seventeen hundred & ninety eight
