246 and by these presents Do hereby release from Slavery liberate manumit and Set free my negro man named Richard otherwise called Richard Gurton who is able to work and gain a Sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named Richard otherwise called Richard Gurton I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or Administrators forever In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this twenty Eighth day of October in the year of our lord one thousand Eight hundred and five Signed Sealed and delivered In the presence of us her Edw.d Poole Sarah + Wheeler (seal) Gideon White mark On the back of the aforegoing was thus Endorsed to wit Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of fifty dollars Current money it being the full Consideration money within mentioned Witness her Edwd Poole Sarah x Wheeler (seal) mark Ann Arundel County Sc.t Be it remembered that on this twenty Eighth day of October in the year of our lord one thousand Eight hundred and five personally appears Sarah Wheeler party to the within instrument of writing before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of maryland for the said county & acknowledges the same to be her Act & Deed for the purposes therein mentioned & the negro man within named to be henceforth manumitted & discharged from all services to her or to any (claiming) |
