228 Exam.d To all whom it may Concern Be it known That I Randolph Brandt Latimer of the City of Annapolis in Anne Arundel County in the state of maryland for divers good Causes and Considerations me thereunto moving as also in the further Consideration of one Dollar Current ^money^ to me in hand paid Have released from slavery Liberated manumitted & set free And by these presents Do hereby Release from Slavery Liberate manumit and set free the two following slaves to wit Negro Sarah aged about Eighty years and Negro Benjamin of about the age of Forty one or two years & fully able & Capable to work & gain a sufficient Livelihood & Maintenance and them the said Negro slaves named Sarah and Benjamin I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of Servitude or service to me my heirs Executors or administrators forever Provided Nevertheless and it is my Express intention that the said Negro Man named Benjamin as aforesaid and who is entirely devoted to him & who I manumit to please Him and Her and to ascertain this I request of my friend mr Walter Boswell of Charles County to judge and as soon as he finds her neglected then the said Negro man named Benjamin is to return into my Service if I am living but this not to take place unless M.r Boswell gives from under his hand that of his own knowledge the said negro man Benjamin has not treated his Grand mother well In |
