As witness my hand and seal this 17.th day of April in
the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred
and four.

On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed Viz.t
Then came David Weems before me one of the
Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid
and acknowledged the above to be his act
and deed for the true purpose and meaning thereof

To all whom it may concern be it known that I
Richard Harwood of Anne Arundel County in the
State of Maryland for divers good causes and
considerations me thereunto moving as also
in further consideration of seventy five pounds
current money to me in hand paid Have
released from slavery liberate manumitted
and set free and by these presents do hereby
release from slavery liberate manumit and
set free my negro woman named Joan
being of the age of fifty years and able to
work and gain a sufficient livelihood and
maintenance and her the said negro
woman named Joan I do declare to be
henceforth free manumitted and discharged
