143 Norwood and acknowledged the within and aforegoing instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof Jn.o Cord Recorded 12 May 1803 To all whom it may concern be it known that I Nathaniel Chew of Ann Arundel County in the State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moveing as also in further consideration of the sum of five shillings current money to me in hand paid have at the expiration of six years from the date hereof released from slavery liberated mamitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate mamit and set free at the expiration of the time above mentioned my negro man named Ned being about the age of Twenty six years provided he the said Ned shall faithfully serve the above named six years and in case the said negro Ned shall abscond or otherways wilfully loose time he shall serve double the time so lost and in consideration of the faithful fulfilment of the above considerations I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged my said negro man Ned from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this sixth day of June eighteen hundred and Three Signed Sealed and delivered In presence of Nathaniel Chew (seal) Lewis Duvall Leonard Gary |
