receipt whereof I the said John H. Brown do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain & sell unto the said James Iglehart his executors administrators and assigns one negro man named Charles aged about thirty years one other Davy aged about twenty six years one other Sam aged about twenty one boy Joe aged about ten years, one woman aged about twenty two years named Charlotte and now in my possession To have and to hold the said negros to the said James Iglehart his executors administrators and assigns against me the said John H. Brown my executors and administrators and against all and every person or persons whomsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents Provided nevertheless that in case I the said John H. Brown shall pay and satisfy to the said James Iglehart or to his executors administrators and assigns the sum of three hundred dollars current money with interest on the same on or before the first day of January eighteen hundred and fifty three then this Bill of Sale and every matter and thing therein expressed shall be void and of none effect it being the true intent and meaning thereof that the said negroes are mortgaged by me the said John H. Brown to secure to the said James Iglehart the payment of the money aforesaid In witness whereof I the said John H. Brown have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty sixth september eighteen hundred and fifty one. Signed sealed and delivered in presence of Jno H. Brown (seal) J. W. Hunter At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit On this twenty sixth day of September eighteen hundred and fifty one before me one of the Justices of the peace in and for said county appears John H. Brown and acknowledges the aforegoing writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of Assembly in such case made and provided. Witness my hand J. W.
