thereof notwithstanding.  In Witness whereof the said
Margaret Duvall has hereto set her hand & seal this
day and year first above mentioned

in presence of Owen M. Taylor J. P.

       At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

    State of Maryland
                   Anne Arundel County Sct.

Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on
this eighth day of August eighteen hundred and fifty one
before the Subscriber a justice of the peace of the said State
in and for said County the above named Margaret Duvall
being known to me to be the person who is named and
described as and professing to be the party grantor in the
aforegoing deed or instrument of writing and acknowledged
the same to be her act and deed.  And at the same time
personally appeared Horatio Ridout of H. the mortgagee
in the said deed mentioned and made oath that the
consideration therein expressed is true and bona fide as
therein set forth.  In Testimony whereof I have hereto
set my hand & seal the day and year aforesaid
                                                    Owen M. Taylor

Received August 9.th 1851 of the grantee to the aforegoing
instrument of writing the sum of one dollars as the
duty chargeable thereon

Know all men by these presents That I James
H. Lee of Baltimore City & county and state of
Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of
two hundred and fifty dollars lawful money of the
United State in hand paid by William Shipley of Anne Arundel County
state aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged  Have granted bargained and sold
and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said William
Shipley his executors administrators and assigns one negro boy named
Joseph to serve until the first day of June eighteen hundred and
seventy five .1875. at which time he is to be free from all service and
servitude  To have and to hold the said described negro boy Joseph
to serve until the first day of June 1875 to the said William Shipley his
Executors administrators and assigns and I the said James H. Lee
