thereof or substitute therefor, whether in whole or in part,
he is willing to execute these presents to the said Randall
Now this Indenture witnesseth that the said William S.
Holliday, for and in consideration of the premises, and for, and
in consideration of the sum of one dollar to him in hand paid by
the said Randall, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, doth
grant, bargain and sell unto the said Randall, two negroes now
in the possession of the said Holliday, as slaves for life, to wit, negro
man Robert Taylor, aged about twenty five years, and negro Boy
Henry aged about fifteen years, subject to the previous mortgage
given by the said Holliday to the said Ridout, on the said negroes
dated fourteenth day of November last, to secure a debt of eight
hundred dollars, of which according to the statement of the said
Holliday, only three hundred dollars are now due, which is
recorded in Liber J. H. N. No. 1 folios 379 & 380 one of the chattel Record
Books of said county.   To Have and to hold the said two negroes to
the said Alexander Randall, his Executors, Administrators and
Assigns forever.  Provided always, and these presents are upon this
condition, that if the said Holliday do, and shall well and truly
pay the said note, and all renewals thereof, and substitutes
therefor, or for any part thereof, then, and in that case, these
presents, and every matter an thing therein, shall be utterly
null and void.   And the said William Holliday for
himself his Executors and Administrators, the said two negro
men by these presents, unto the said Alexander Randall his
Executors, Administrators and Assigns, against all and every
person (except the right of Dr John Ridout) as aforesaid, will forever
warrant and by these presents defend.   And provided also that
until default be made in the payment of the said sum of money
as aforesaid, the said William S. Holliday shall hold the aforesaid
negroes in his possession.   In testimony whereof the said William
S. Holliday hath hereto set his hand, and affixed his seal the day
and year first hereinbefore written

On this twenty fifth day of September in the year eighteen hundred
and fifty before me the Subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of
Maryland in and for the county aforesaid personally appears the
within named Grantor William S. Holliday and acknowledges the
aforegoing deed to be his act and deed Sworn before
