408 State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit On this Eleventh day of April 1850 personally appeared Beale Lusby before the subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for the County aforesaid and acknowledged the foregoing instrument of writing to be his act and deed And at the same time appeared William Bryan party grantee therein named and made oath that the consideration set forth in said Instrument of Writing is true and Bona fide as therein set forth J W Hunter Recorded on the 11th day of April 1850 Ex d d d Costs 75 cts
H. Somerville owes to and stands justly indebted to the said Benjamin Carr & John T. Councilman practising medicine under the firm of Carr & Councilman in the sum of two hundred and Eighty three dollars twenty two cents And whereas the said John H Somerville is also indebted to the said Benj Carr & John T Councilman as the Executors of John Scrivener late of Anne Arundel County deceased in the sum of five hundred and fifty five dollars and fifteen cents And Whereas it is the intention of the said John H Somerville by these presents to secure the said debts Now This Indenture Witnesseth that the said John H Somerville for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars current money to him in hand paid by the said Carr & Councilman the receipt of which he doth hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained and sold and hereby doth grant bargain and sell to the said Carr & Councilman the following Negroes and property now in the possession of the said John H Somerville Viz John aged about 38 years Margaret aged about 30 years Charles about 10 years of age Sarah aged about 8 years Alice aged 4 years 1 infant girl 18 months old Robert aged 19 years Wat aged 25 years Stephen an Infant 1 year old 8 head of horses 6 steers 4 cows 25 hogs 28 sheep & Lambs 10 head of cattle together with all my farming utensils house hold and kitchen furniture beds & bedding &c To Have and To Hold the said the aforesaid negroes and property to the said Carr & Councilman their Executors administrators and assigns forever provided always and these presents are on this condition |
