receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have given granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Robert Hall his executors administrators and assigns one negro woman named "Candy" (wife of said Hall) aged about twenty six years to free on the first day of May eighteen hundred and fifty eight (1858) by virtue of the last will and testament of Charles Waters late of the City of Baltimore deceased one negro boy named William Henry aged about two months (son of the said Robert Hall & "Candy") to be free on the first day of January eighteen hundred and seventy seven. To Have and to Hold the said described negroes to wit Candy and William Henry for the terms of years specified above but no longer to the said Robert Hall his executors administrators and assigns as aforesaid In Witness whereof we have hereto set our hands and seals this thirteenth day of August eighteen hundred and forty nine Signed sealed and delivered in Dorsey Jacob (seal) presence of Addison Johnson his Robert x Hall (seal) mark State of Maryland A. A. Co to wit Be it remembered that on this thirteenth day of August eighteen hundred and forty nine before the subscribers a Justice of the peace for said County appear Dorsey Jacob and Robert Hall and acknowledge the foregoing instrument of writing to be their act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof; And at the same time and place also appeared before me Robert Hall the grantee in the said Bill of sale named and made oath that the consideration set forth in the said Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth Witness my hand Addison Johnson Recorded on the 14.th day of August 1849 Cost 75cts paid
Stevens Gambrill at the request and solicitation of Passmore McCullough agreed to and hath become surety for John L. Benjamin in a replevin Bond dated the tenth day of August eighteen hundred and forty nine to Anne Lamden of the County and state aforesaid in the penal sum of three hundred dollars he the said Passmore McCullough hath agreed on his part in consideration thereof to execute to him a deed of Mortgage of personal property of the value of two hundred dollars current money so as to bear harmless and secure the said Stevens Gambrill from any loss which he may sustain by becoming security as aforesaid Now this Indenture witnesseth that the said Passmore McCullough |
