Hunter State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this twentieth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of the state of Maryland in and for Anne Arundel County aforesaid personally appeared Edwin W. Duvall and acknowledged the aforegoing Bill of sale or instrument of writing to be his act and deed. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name on the day and year aforesaid J W Hunter State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit. On this twentieth day of October in the year eighteen hundred and forty eight before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of the state of Maryland in and for Anne Arundel County personally appeared William Bryan and John Lamb the aforegoing named grantees and made oath on the Holy Evangely of God that the consideration in the aforegoing Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth J W Hunter Annapolis Oct. 20.th 1848 Received one dollar for stamp duty on the aforegoing Bill of Sale Jos. H. Nicholson Clk Recorded on the 20.th day of October 1848 Cost $1.00
whereas the said Charles F Worthington is indebted to the said N. B. Worthington in the sum of four hundred dollars current money and to secure the payment thereof with interest is willing to execute these presents. Now this Indenture witnesseth that the said Charles F Worthington for & in consideration of the premises & for & in consideration of the sum of one dollar current money to him in hand paid by the said N. B. Worthington at or before the sealing & delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained & sold & by these presents doth grant bargain & sell unto the said N. B. Worthington his executors administrators & assigns one negro boy named David Ready a slave for life aged about nineteen years To Have and to Hold the said negro boy unto the said N. B. Worthington his executors administrators & assigns to the only proper use & behoof of the said N. B. Worthington his executors administrators & assigns forever. Provided always & it is the true intent & meaning of these presents that if the said Charles F.
