288 purpose dated the 2.d day of June 1848; for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and eighty dollars lawful money of the United States to me in hand paid by Francis McDowell of the City of Baltimore at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged; have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said Francis McDowell his executors, administrators and assigns, a very light complexioned girl named Eliza, who has twenty four years to serve as a slave, from the first day of April 1841, and recorded in Liber H. S. No 23 folio 135 & 136 Frederick County Court being the same girl sold by Walter C Campbell of the City of Baltimore to the said John H. Urquehart by indenture dated the 14.th day of December 1847 and recorded in Liber A. W. B No 74 folio 467 &c one of the chattel record books of Baltimore County. To Have and to Hold the said described light complexioned girl Eliza for and during the above term of years and no longer to the said Francis McDowell his executors administrators and assigns forever; and I the said Mary Jane Urquehart for myself my heirs, executors, administrators the said girl Eliza, unto the said Francis McDowell, his executors, administrators and assigns, against me the said Mary Jane Urquehart, my executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever, shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In Witness whereof we hereunto set our hands and seals this 25.th day of July 1848 Signed sealed and delivered in Mary Jane Urquhart (seal) presence of Robert S. D. Jones Francis McDowell (seal) Maryland Anne Arundel County sct. Be it remembered that on this 25.th day of July 1848 before the subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for said County appear Mary Jane Urquhart and Francis McDowell and acknowlidge the above instrument of writing to be their act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and at the same time the said Francis McDowell & made oath that the consideration set forth in the within bill of sale is just and bona fide as therein set fort Acknowledged and sworn to before Robert S. D. Jones Recorded on the 19.th of August 1848 Sent to F. McDowell Balt. by mail 21st Augt 1848 Cost 87½ paid
