Be it remembered that on this 5.th day of April 1848 personally
appeared before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state
of Maryland for Anne Arundel County James W. Allen and William
H. Byrd both of Anne Arundel County Maryland and acknowledged
the foregoing deed or instrument of writing to be their act and deed
and the negro Boy Amer therein named to be the right and Estate of
the said James W. Allen party grantee therein named, according to the
purport true intent and meaning thereof.  And I Certify that the said
James W. Allen and William H Byrd are known to me, as the identical
person named as purchaser and grantee in said deed or Instrument
of writing

Bill of Sale from John
          H. Somervell
                      To
Boswell and Griffith
Know all men by these Presents, that
I, John H. Somervell of Anne Arundel
County and State of Maryland, have this
day January 25th 1848 Bargained, sold
and delivered to Messrs W. H. Boswell
and Lewis Griffith of Calvert County and state of maryland the
following Negroes to wit   John Morgaret, Winny Charles Aloce
and Sarah  Bob, Wott   Amy and Emily, for and in consideration
of the said W.m H. Boswell and Lewis Griffith being joint dealers
with me, on Two notes of Dolls 2,187.50 cts each bearing date
the 2d day of November 1847 & droun Twelve months and 2 years
after date, and mode payable to Cope John Wood Trustee for the
sale of the real Estate of J. G. Harrison Deceased, It being expressly understood
thoe this instrument is to remoin in full force against
the above property of the said J. H. Somerville until the said notes are
paid, lequidated and satisfied it being further understood, thoe so
soon as the above notes for $2187.50 cts each, shall have been paid
by the said J H. Somerville, his Executors Administrators, or assigns
thoe this instrument then shall be of no effect and be null and
void  but until the said note are liquidated, I warrant and
defend the title of the above named negroes to be good and
sufficient to the said W.m H. Boswell and Lewis Griffith to them
their Executors Administrators or assigns, and I further warrant
that the above named negroes are sound in body and mind
