instrument shall cease & be utterly void.  In Testimony whereof we
have hereto set our hands & affixed our seals this ninth day of April in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty five

The words and said in 24 & 26 lines & the words our and nine in the 28 & 35
lines & the word Caroline in 42 line first before the execution hereof
At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit      Jon Nicholson

State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit

    On this 9.th day of April 1845 personally appeared Leslie M. Stewart
and Elizabeth Caroline Stewart his wife before me one of the Justices of the
Justices of the peace in & for said County and acknowledges the foregoing writing
to be their act and deed according to the true intent and meaning and the
act of Assembly in such cases made and provided and I do further certify
that the said Leslie M. Stewart and Elizabeth Caroline Stewart are
known to me to be the same identical person professing to have
signed & sealed the same within Instrument Witness my hand
certify in the 9.th line first interlined                  Jon Nicholson
before the execution hereof J. N.

Mary Baldwin to John Rice bill of
sale of negro man named Sam to serve
until the year 1856 dated the 24.th day
of March 1845.
Know all men by these
presents that I Mary
Baldwin of Anne Arundel
County and state of Maryland
for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and seventy dollars
current money to me in hand paid by John Rice of the County and
State aforesaid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have
granted bargained sold and delivered and by these presents do grant
bargain sell and deliver unto the said John Rice my negro Slave
Sam to serve until the year 1856 and then to be free and discharge
from Slavery which said Slave Sam I will warrant and
defend to the said John Rice his executors administrators and
assigns against me my executors and administrators and
against me my executors and administrators and against every
other person or persons whomsoever
                      In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and affixed my seal this 24 day of March 1845
