162 Know all men by these presents that I Freeborn G Waters (State of Maryland stamp) exr of Charles Waters deceased of Baltimore City and State of ( one ) Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred ( Dol ) and five dollars lawful money of the United States in hand paid by Col John Berry of Baltimore County and State aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Col John Berry his Executors administrators and assigns one negro boy named Joshua now about eighteen years of age to be free 1.st day of May 1861 and one negro man named Charles aged about thirty years to be free 1.st day of January 1857 of the property of Charles Waters late of the City of Baltimore as slaves to serve until the times above dated and thereafter to be free and discharged from all servitude agreeably to the form and effect of the last will and testament of the said dec.d The said negroes being sold and conveyed by me as executor and in virtue of the power and authority vested in me by said last will and testament. To Have and To Hold the said described negroes for terms of years as aforesaid but no longer. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this sixth day of January eighteen hundred and forty seven Signed sealed and delivered F. G. Waters Exr (seal) in the presence of Joshua Stewart of Chas Waters dec.sd John Berry (seal) At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit State of Maryland Anne Arundel County Ss. Be it remembered that on this sixth day of January 1847 before the Subscriber a justice of the peace for said County appears F G Waters ex as aforesaid & John Berry and acknowledges the above instrument of writing to be their act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof Acknowledged before Recorded the 24.th day of January 1847 Joshua Stewart costs 62½ paid (State of Maryland stamp) ( one )
Yealdhall of the said County the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said John Yealdhall his executors administrators and assigns my negro slaves Julian about twenty years of |
